The PEARCE’s Traditional Engagement Ceremony Had Every Bit Of Cultural Blend, Love, and Cozy Affair
Traditional engagement ceremonies are a golden opportunity to display love and affection in a peculiar way binding to customs and traditions. If you ask me, the Pearce’s did every bit of justice in that regard.n
Arthur Elnathan Pearce and Rachel Ann Marie Jongo had their traditional wedding in a Sierra Leonean manner. The ceremony was done according to the old Creole engagement ceremony. The hallmark of the event was the calabash, which is significant of Arthur’s romantic intentions towards Rachel. nn
The calabash wrapped in white cloth, contains kola nuts, bitter kola, a bible, needle and thread, and envelopes that carry sums of money apportioned to different family members. The Kola Nut is an indication that there will be life and well-being in the Pearce’s matrimonial home. The bible signifies the presence of God in the relationship. The envelopes contain money for sisters, brothers, friends, neighbours, aunts and uncles who helped in raising the bride. It is Arthur’s indication of thanksgiving. The needle and thread indicate that in times of difficulties and constraints, Arthur and Rachel will patch up their differences and work together.nnAs their white wedding is slated for the weekend, the Pearce’s traditional wedding is featured on our website.
